[00:00:02] Speaker A: Hey, guys. Welcome to another episode of you're the Cure. I have a feeling you're going to love this show. I've read a book recently, the God shaped brain by Dr. Timothy Jennings, MD. Which real quick, I'll just go ahead and read Dr. Jennings Little A bit of his bio. It's a long one, but Dr. Jennings obtained his MD degree in 1990 from the University of Tennessee College of Medicine in Memphis. He completed his psychiatric residency at D.D. eisenhower Army Medical center in Augusta, Georgia.
And then during his distinguished military career, Dr. Jennings served as Division Psychiatrist for the 24th and 3rd Infantry Divisions and as chief of psychiatry at Wynn Army Hospital in Fort Stewart, Georgia. After completing his military service, he spent 25 years in private practice and then in 2022 became the chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health at Liberty University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Lynchburg, Virginia. And in 23 became the medical director of Honey Lake Clinic in Greenville, Florida. And then January of this year, 2026, with a vision to expand the reach of, of its healing message, Dr. Jennings took the position of executive clinical strategist and teaching psychiatrist at Honey Lake Clinic.
And there's much more to the bio, but Dr. Jennings, the part I love is he loves God and he lets the Holy Spirit lead him into all truth. And he's integrating God's principles for healing the mind and, and modern brain science.
And he's authored many books including the God Shaped Brain and most folks in psychiatry, most physicians in psychiatry, I think Dr. Jennings, I heard you quote, don't believe in God.
So the fact a psychiatrist brings the kingdom, principles and science together. We're such an intellectual based society, sometimes to our detriment, but when we can integrate and of course seek the kingdom first and put God's truth above all else. But it's so cool to see how we're learning more and more through the research on the impact of our thoughts on the physical and just real, real quick, quick story before we jump in and Dr. Jennings, I don't want to talk too much because I have a feeling we can't even get everything. I want to talk to you about Dr. Jennings, but I want to go back for the listener just to travel with me back to my conventional training out of UT Houston, Waco Family practice residency into post Texas, the Garza County Health Clinic. What I came to learn was I was really treating symptoms and autoimmune disease is a great example. The immune system, the theory we are taught in school, the immune system just goes berserk Starts to attack, self doesn't recognize self anymore. So the immune system is fired up with all these weapons of mass destruction, I call them, all these different chemicals. And we give drugs as conventionally trained doctors to suppress that immune response. Because all that inflammation hurts. If that's attacking your joints, Rheumatoid arthritis or your colon, ulcerative colitis or your brain myelin, Mississippi there, you're very symptomatic. So drugs shut that immune response down or try to tamp that down. That's what steroids do. That's what all the immune modulators do of autoimmune disease. Because there's so much inflammation, the immune system's just fired up, attacking.
And then as I move more into the integrative world, these doctors have a different theory that the immune system's actually doing what God designed it to do.
It's identifying a germ or a toxin in that joint, in the myelin, in the wall of the colon. And it's trying to go in there to clear that foreign invader, but it's unable to completely clear that, or that foreign invader just keeps pouring in. So even if they are, the immune system is killing it. Here come more. The enemy troops just keep coming. So you stay in a chronic state of inflammation and, and in that integrative thought process, in the functional world, you try to find those germs and toxins if you can, and help the body eliminate them fully.
And so we did that for a while and that was fine. It sometimes would be amazing and even into remission and symptom free.
But along came Dr. Lee Cowden, the president of the Academy of Comprehensive Integrative Medicine and older, old, I mean, he's been practicing integrative for 40 years probably now, and he's a believer. And, and he came to my clinic one day and that was in the season where I was chasing those germs and toxins big time. And a particular patient I had type 1 diabetic, her immune system decided to turn on her pancreas, attack it, and knock out the insulin producing cells. Well, this lady was 55 years old and usually type 1 used to be called juvenile diabetes would be, you know, in your youth, not at 55. And so it was so strange. And I was going through my history and what were her risk factors leading up to, and I thought she had an overgrowth, candidiasis, overgrowth in the pancreas, maybe a parasite. The immune system was trying to clear that. And friendly fire, collateral damage, knocked out.
Well, Dr. Cowden, was in the visit with me. And I turned to him and said, what do you think? Or do you have any questions? And he said, yes, Ben, I think that could be plausible. There's parasitic activity and candidiasis and do these herbs to clear that. But then he said, you can kill alligators all day long, but if you don't drain the swamp, alligators come back.
I looked at him curiously like, what in the world are you talking about? And he looked at that patient and said, when was a sweet. I just have one question for you. When was a sweetness robbed from your life? And the lady broke down crying and she said her daughter came back in the picture. The daughter had a baby 13 years ago and split. But the baby was left with grandma, the patient. And so grandma raised this little baby for 13 years. Then mom came back in the picture, took the baby or the 13 year old away. Grandma has no idea where they're at, just ripped her heart out. And Dr. Cowden said, Ben, what? And this is how he explained it to me. What Dr. Jennings book and teaching does so well is really bring the proof to this. But Dr. Cowden said, Ben, events happen in people's lives that evoke an emotion and that emotion, it's fine, we're emotional beings, but then we have to interpret that thing. And if we don't interpret it with truth, then the subatomic particles, the quarks, tachyons and fermions, and these vibrational frequencies, the atoms that make up the pancreas, that make up the insulin secreting cells, those atoms that make us make this body up, will vibrate at a different frequency. And that frequency is what attracts the toxins and the bugs that the integrative doctors are trying to clear, clear, clear. And it's fine to do that, but ultimately you got to get and flip the frequency and the body will repel the germ and toxins. How he explained it, how much of that's exactly true? What's turned turning out, I think more and more and more to be true.
So Dr. Jennings, I think that resonates with a lot of what I've read in the book.
I would love to get into that, how our thoughts specifically are thoughts about God. And guys, in the book, it's incredible.
If you have a thought, a belief that God is authoritative and punishing, it actually kind of damages the part of the brain, the prefrontal cortex.
That's the part of the brain where you can comprehend truth and experience love and commune with God.
If you have the wrong thought of God it damages the part of the brain that allows you to truly commune and have a loving, trusting relationship.
Amazing.
So, Dr. Jennings, thank you for joining us today. I'm sorry I rambled there for a little bit, but I really want to set the stage for folks who are just really in the conventional mindset, maybe in the integrative mindset, but to go deeper. And it's not either or I think we need to steward the physical. But this deeper thing is so powerful. So thank you for your work. Amazing website, guys. Check out all the
[email protected] and you'll see some incredible blog articles, all the other books, videos, podcasts. So check that out. But Dr. Jennings, welcome to the show.
[00:07:53] Speaker B: Thanks for having me. Looking forward to the conversation.
[00:07:56] Speaker A: Okay, well, I just want to jump right in and I think the place to start would be, I've heard you say all treatment plans start with an accurate diagnosis, and if you miss the diagnosis, obviously the treatment's probably not going to work too good. And specifically, the context of the conversation I was hearing you talk about this was related to the diagnosis of the sin problem.
And I think it's important to jump into that because I think I even heard you say there's not a single theological perspective that's gotten that definition right.
So I don't know if we want to start there. If you have some opening comments or thoughts related to the fact that God designed the creation us and all of creation with certain laws, physical laws, but also spiritual laws, design laws versus human laws. So maybe there needs to be some context before we jump into this wrong diagnosis of the sin problem.
[00:08:53] Speaker B: Yeah, no, so, so that's the premise. We start with the evidence and we don't have time to go through the evidences of it. But the evidences of science and reality are that the universe as we know it and life as we understand it requires an intelligence.
It's. It's refuted that random material forces organized the universe and brought life. That. That is not scientific. It's not evidence based. We, that's not what our program is about. So I'm not going to go into all that evidence today. But it is not any more. Well, it might be or it might not be. It's actually provably false that random material forces organizes the universe and brings life.
And it's provable that an intelligence is required. Now that opens up then the whole discussion on, okay, so we have an intelligence, a mind God as the Bible describes, but that doesn't tell us what kind of being the Creator is And that's a critical question. And that's where the controversy through history has always been. Up until the last few hundred years, there's been relatively few minds in human history that questions the existence of a divine being. The historical questions have been what kind of being is the divine being? And you know, our, our view as Christians in the biblical worldview is that God is love.
And God is also the creator. And love requires freedom. You, you can't program a computer to love. Puppets cannot love. And so God the creator either makes robots, simulations, or he makes free beings. Now he doesn't have to make free beings, he's a creator. But if he chooses to make free beings, then he can no longer make their choices and then still be free.
So he that makes free beings and gives us real freedom to then make decisions in governance of ourself, that has real life reality based consequence, or he makes robots and simulations. I believe, and I think the evidence is quite clear, that he makes free beings and we have freedom. And this then goes back to then what is sin? You know, sin, transgression of the law. In the old King James, most modern versions talk about lawlessness, okay, that comes to the question of what kind of law?
The kinds of laws that creatures make up, that you and I make up. Tax laws, property laws, traffic laws that are just rules that require external enforcement, or the kinds of laws only a creator can make. The law of gravity, laws of physics, laws of health, the laws that actually never change and are in operation and govern the operations of life.
Those are what I call the design laws. And, and they're constants because God is constant. And he is not only creator, he is sustainer of all things. And then, then sin then becomes transgression of the very laws or protocols upon which God has constructed life and health to operate. Like violating the laws of health. And if you violate the laws of health, you reap in your being damage and it decays you. And eventually, if you're not restored to harmony with the laws of health, you will eventually die from the sickness that has you out of harmony with the laws of health. And what you were just describing didn't use those words. But physicians never get people well while in active violation of the laws of health. All of our interventions are designed to restore the living being to harmony with the laws of health. And then healing comes. So you can't have health while violating the laws of health. You can't avoid healing. That comes from harmonizing with them. That's how reality works. And then when we talk about Then the sin problem for a free thinking being, you would be choosing with that mind to encode into the being themselves distortions and deviations from reality that have direct cascading consequences on the function and operation of the being that will result in pain, suffering and destruction. I'll give a simple example.
And this is where the Bible then tells us God is not only love, he is truth. Satan is the father of lies and, and lies and truth and love. These are not material, they are not physical.
They are, they are functional concepts that living beings operate upon encoded information, truth and lies, motivational information, fear, survival, love, trust. And that's the Holy Spirit, Spirit of truth, information, reality and love. Motivation.
That's the kingdom of God. And we are created in his image. And we have animating motivation, what we call spirit. Do we have a spirit of love and trust? We have a spirit of fear and survival. We also are thinking beings. We can process information and come up with ideas and actually create new conceptions of things. Whether it's a reality based understanding of something, whether it's or a fiction and a fantasy that people and we have all types of fictions and fantasy novels and things that that human minds make up and we have the ability to do that.
What happens though when we encode with our free thinking, being with our own minds lies that actually destabilizes the coherent system that God has constructed us to operate upon and introduces discord and decay without intervention, restoration, then the only outcome is decoherence, death, ruin and death. So example, you're in a loving other centered marriage where you love and trust your spouse and your spouse loves and trusts you and one day somebody else you maybe love and trust, a brother or sister you've known your whole life, somebody you've known since first grade comes to you one day and they tell you a lie that your spouse is having an affair and they pull out pictures they've doctored on their computer to make it appear as if your spouse was someone else.
Now, while your spouse is completely faithful and loyal and has done nothing wrong, if you believe the lie, does something inside of you change?
And immediately you recognize yes. What changes lies believed. If this free being chooses to encode and believe the lie, it immediately causes a structural change that encodes and we can talk to some of the neuroanatomy if you want, but encodes into their brain that shifts their animating motive to their motive shifts from love and trust to fear and survival. I believe you're a cheat. I don't trust you anymore. My trust is broken because of an encoded lie. Therefore, I'm no longer motivated by open trust and love. I'm motivated by protection, fear and survival.
I can't let you get in my bed. You might bring me a disease. I've got to get to the bank and get and get the money before you do, Because I got to watch out for me. Now. That's exactly what the Genesis account describes. They believe lies about God, and instantly they ran and hid because they were afraid, began hiding, covering and blaming. Before any speech of divine consequence, it is an inherent encoding change that alterates the resonant frequency of the human brain upon which it is animated and motivated by. We're out of tune with the spirit of God. Love and trust, we encode within ourselves fear and survival, and we run and hide and then we externalize. And then when God comes and says, adam, where are you? Adam goes, I hid because I was afraid, because I was naked. Notice the response. God's response was, adam, who told you you were naked?
Understand the implication that conversation is how God wins. He wins by showing, not by just dictating. And what he's showing there by the conversation is Adam, you didn't hear that from me.
I'm not the one pointing out your defects. I'm not the critic here. I'm not the accuser here. Adam, that's coming from inside of you. That's what you've just done. You believed a lie that changed your resonant frequency of love and trust to fear and survival. And now you don't trust, and you project that out and you're afraid and you're condemning yourself.
That's what happens. And that then drives to more actions designed to make one feel secure and safe. And those actions designed to make one feel secure and safe are actually counter to how love and trust works, which means they're out of harmony with objective reality. They will encode more, decay more corruption. The system inherently becomes more unstable, which incites more fear, which causes people to seek more security. And they do that through law and law enforcement, rules and coercion. They become more dominating, more controlling, more abusive, which is out of harmony with how love works, which actually makes the system decay more. And the spiral continues down the. That is the entire human reality since Adam and Eve sinned and this is encoded. And so God created them in his image with the ability to procreate beings in their own image. And they corrupted themselves with this before they had children. And thus the Bible tells us in Psalms 51, we are born in sin, conceived in Iniquity. It simply means that we are born animated primarily by motivation of fear and survival.
That's why it says in 2 Timothy 1:7, God did not give us a spirit of fear, but of power and love and sound mind. No, the spirit of fear did not come from God, it came from Adam. That's what we inherit. So Romans 5:12 tells us that sin entered the one world through one man and therefore death.
And through that one man, death passed to all men. Yes. Not as a human law system of legal guilt and legal judicial process of external inflicted execution. But no. We inherited a terminal condition. HIV infected man, HIV infected woman, get together and have a baby born HIV infected. What did the baby do wrong? Nothing. But the baby still has a condition that is out of harmony with how life works. Without intervention and remedy, we'll have symptoms and eventual death from that condition. That's every human born since Adam and Eve. We're born in sin, conceived in iniquity. And thus the message from Christ is that. And so the thing of the HIV baby, if it's not their fault they're born this way, but if free remedy is offered them, they understand their situation, they understand the free remedy, but they refuse the remedy. They're not condemned for having the condition. They get condemnation when they refuse free remedy. And the condemnation comes from the very condition that's terminal, not from the external source. And that's what Jesus said. Light has come into the world, but men prefer darkness to light because they stand or remain condemned already, because our condition is inherently out of harmony with how God made life to work. The problem in Christianity and much of religion is that they've interpreted the language through a human law model and they set up a penal, legal, external system in which sin is merely about the bad deeds that we do. And that requires legal enforcement through an external authority. And therefore God becomes the source of inflicted pain and punishment. And therefore their whole religious experiences focuses around doing something to the punishing God, so the punishing God will not hurt us. And we get some legal accounting trick in a book somewhere in the cosmos far away, some judicial, you know, courtroom in heaven, but nothing's actually changing in here.
And that is the problem. And I think Paul wrote about it to Timothy when he described a form of godliness without power. Reality is we are one back to trust based on the truth. The truth will set you free. We encode truth. And as we encode truth, that actually structurally changes neurobiology, which structurally changes the frequency upon which our brains resonate. And we come with every Believed and chosen truth. Ultimately leading us to the point as an individual we say I have seen enough truth about who God is, my condition, what the real problem is that I realize I can't fix me and I trust you and, and you make that decision as a free being to say I trust you Lord, and, and that. And then enhances opens the heart to the indwelling Holy Spirit who brings us a literal new frequency of life, the life of Christ. No longer I that live, but Christ lives in me. The Holy Spirit comes with a resonant animating spirit motivation of love and trust, again built on the platform of our freely chosen truth that we receive through the revelation of truth through Jesus Christ.
And this actually becomes structural and encoded and I can go through some of that if you want. But philosophically that that's how reality works.
[00:21:19] Speaker A: Yeah. So I would like to go through that neurobiology because I find that fascinating. I think the audience will too and it'll just drive home the importance of taking captive your thought, renewing the mind, letting Holy Spirit truth be written on your heart by the Holy Spirit.
But ultimately it's, it boils down to this choice of I'm going to trust this invisible word like Abraham did, like Mary did, an invisible word. I'm going to actually trust it. And that's a hard leap for people. So especially the Western intellectual, left brain, scientific minded people like myself.
[00:21:55] Speaker B: But, but we, but that word we trust is not a word without evidence. The word itself is the word of truth. And the word of truth from our God of truth is confirmed by the reality and the evidence itself, whether it is in what we see in our human relationships that a altruistic person who actually loves others is a reliable person and is not exploitive, not manipulative. And that actually we actually are drawn to that. Whereas the liar, cheat, manipulator or exploiter, we are repulsed from that. I mean these things that God describes are not just declaratives, believe without evidence there they are certainly descriptors, but you will always see the evidence borne out and how it actually works because it's the laws of life, the laws of health.
[00:22:47] Speaker A: Now.
Well, and ultimately the, the ultimate foundational law would you say is the law of love. And coupled right with that has to be the law of liberty. I think you describe in the book.
[00:22:59] Speaker B: Yeah, the big three. Truth, love and liberty. What the, what does it say? Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices with the truth. And God is the source of all reality or truth and the source of love and Both of those require freedom. And God has encoded that as the foundation of all successful operations. Coherence. And so when, you know, when he. When we think about the physical reality of our universe, there's. Science now tells us there's two general understandings of physics. The physics of the big things, the physical molecules that we, our day to day operations are at which we call Newtonian or Isaac Newton, Newtonian physics.
Friction, motion, gravity, the physics of the physical molecules when we punch somebody, play baseball, basketball, our cars that we build. These are all the physics of the big things that we understand how reality works. But we understand that all those big things of physics are actually built out of the infinitesimally small things.
The physics of the quantum realities. And the quantum realities are ultimately back to the quantum strings, the resonant harmonic, the vibrational strings from which the physical realities are built. Which goes right back to what the scriptures describe as the word of God. The breadth of his mouth, the voice that the, the speak spoken word, which is the quantum in, you know, truth. Understanding reality and motivational energy are what the physical universe is built out of.
And this is important because God cannot be part of the universe he created.
It is external to Him. He can't be with, but he built the universe and he sustains it. But the universe is not God.
And therefore the physical might power elements of governance are require the physical matter of the physical universe, which the Bible tells us was spoken into existence by God.
Meaning that God's system and order does not run primarily on physical force and matter. That's why it says in Scripture Zechariah 4 not by might nor by power, but by the Spirit, says the Lord. The Lord is the spirit of truth and love. Ultimately these are the realities upon which everything operates. Created beings who cannot speak into existence reality, including angel beings. Lucifer can only use the systems of made up rules and force and might to advance their kingdoms. And that's how all the kingdoms of the world work, through made up rules, coercive force and might. And Jesus said, my kingdom is not of this world. The kingdom of God is within you because it is the kingdom of motivational love and operational truth that has to be encoded by the free being choosing it with their own power of decision making.
God cannot do that. People don't like me saying God cannot do something.
God makes free beings or robots. Once he makes free beings, he cannot make their choices and then still be free.
And if and while God of course has the power to reach inside any human being's brain, mind and make A adjustment. He has the power. He's the creator, could do it. But the moment he does that, without their consent, without their saying yes, without their agreement, he erases them. He turns them into a robot. They're not them anymore. The only way to keep their unique personhood is to fully persuade them in their own mind to say yes. That's Romans 14:5. Every person must be fully persuaded in their own mind to choose it in order for us to be freed and still be us. And that's why, again, the spirit of truth and love wins us to trust. And then when we make the choice for truth, we're empowered. So what's happening in the brain?
We encode life experiences in two general ways. Neural networks. Synaptic encoding is where we encode facts, data, behaviors, habit patterns, learning to play an instrument, any of those things. As you practice that, you make neural networks that make you more proficient, and you encode those facts, those meanings. But there's a deeper encoding that is not synaptic encoding. It is subcellular. Inside the neurons, the, the gestalt, the meaning, the felt value, the resonant harmonic frequency codes. Deep down into the tubulin, the microtubules.
And inside the hundred billion neurons are hundreds of millions of microtubules made out of billions of tubulin molecules. And the tubulin molecules that make up the microtubules have two physical ways. They settle into the universe. In other words, when we make decisions that the tubulin that makes up the microtubules structurally has two physical ways. They present just like your hand. One object can present as an open palm or a closed fist. The exact same structure. Every molecule of your hand is still the same, but it can present physically in two different ways. Same. The tubulin molecules will present as they build out the tubulin system microtubules. In either the metaphorically, the hand or the closed fist, that structural change changes three dimensionally than the inside shape of the microtubule. And inside the microtubule, think of a tube. A tube has a hollow center. The microtubules have a hollow center. Except what's inside the microtubule is latticed water.
Water that is held structurally rigid in a latticed form. It doesn't flow. And that latticed water inside the microtubules of our brains has a high Q state. High Q state means vibrates on a very specific frequency, just like a crystal glass has a high Q state. And if you hit a tuning fork near a crystal glass on that frequency, the crystal glass begins to vibrate. So as we begin going through life and we Encode life experiences. They not only code synaptically memories and such. We encode a deeper felt meaning of a stalt, a value in the heart, so to speak, which the science points to the tubulin substructures of the neurons. And the electrons of those microtubules are shared in electron clouds. And as we then make choices, our free will choices, those electrons collapse down onto the microtubule, onto the, along the tubulin. And that then determines whether the micro, the tubulin is in the open palm or the closed fist, which structure zeros and ones, okay? Two different ways of, of presenting the, the data. And that's how we encode information. We encode that experience changing structurally the shape of the tube, which changes that lattice water, which just like changing the, the, the, the dimensions of a flute or, or a pipe organ's pipe, changes the sound or the frequency of the note. As we encode it actually changes the resonance upon which we're our motivational energy, our spirit. And so as we encode truth, as we encode love, we structurally by choosing say yes, not cognitively recognizing, but encoding into the deep heart that substructure, that's when the resonant frequency motivation changes and you shift. And it can be very quickly. And I think we've all had moments where something shifted in us where we accepted something and we had a, we had a piece, a shift or we had a terrible uneasy resonance going a different direction, okay, Depending on what we're encoding, that is the deeper gestalt, the spiritual animating energy.
And as we encode truth and love, we become ever closer and our neurobiology to harmony with the Holy Spirit, our conscience has become more sensitive. We're more easily influenced by motives of truth and love and, and it's easier for us to upload and advance in the, in God's kingdom of truth and love. As we keep encoding down that path, as we encode lies the villainy, the vulgar, the grotesque, the, the exploitive, the self centered, the manipulative. We encode that not as we see, see and experience it around us as we choose it to make, make it part of us.
That then causes that the whole system to collapse those electrons down in a different direction. We are structured lattice water goes a different way. We're on a different harmonic, a different frequency. Our spirit becomes more angry, more bitter, more resentful, more hostile, more fearful, more suspicious, more frantic. We become ever closer in harmony with the enemy of God. And we're easily influenced by those angry motives energies in our world around Us. This is reality based, structural changing based on the choices we're making. And the only way God can free us from the inherent spirit of fear we inherit from Adam, Eve, is by presenting truth to us in love with opportunity for us to say yes to it. And as we say yes to it, we actually encode and change and ultimately are empowered by his spirit to succeed.
[00:32:30] Speaker A: That's incredible. Could you explain a little bit how the prefrontal cortex versus the, the fear center, the amygdala that you talk about?
[00:32:39] Speaker B: Okay, so, yeah, yeah. So, yeah.
So the amygdala is our alarm circuit. Okay. And. And I use the metaphor of a fire alarm in a school.
And. And the, the fire alarm in a school, little red box on a wall, break the glass, set off the alarm. That is the amygdala in the brain. And when somebody pulls that, it immediately alerts the 911 operator. The 911 operator in our brain is known as our hypothalamus. And the hypothalamus is connected to the pituitary gland. The job of the. Of the 911 operator, when they flashes on their screen, fire at the school, is to call in emergency responders, send the fire department to the school. And so when our amygdala fires, it alerts the hypothalamus. The 911 operator, not using radio signals, but hormone signals, calls in emergency responders from our adrenal glands, adrenaline and stress hormones, glucocorticoids.
And when the emergency responders, the fire department, arrives at the scene of the fire, there's a fire chief who assesses how big the blaze is and how many responders we have will call back to the 911 operator and say, I know that alarm's on your board still, but we've got enough here. You don't need to send anymore. In our brain, neurons of the hippocampi have receptors that register the rise of the stress hormones, the glucocorticoids. And when they saturate those receptors, they will signal back to the hypothalamus and say, hey, you've got enough. You don't need to call anymore.
And at the school, there is a fire chief who assesses. Excuse me, not fire chief, a principal, an administrator who assesses whether this is real fire. Some kids playing a prank. So how this works in real life, you're walking along one day, some are in a park. You step forward in the grass, and out the corner of your eye see something black and slithery down by your feet.
What's likely to happen is your alarm is going to fire. It's going to alert your 911 operator, call an emergency responders out of your adrenal glands. Your heart rate picks up, your blood pressure picks up, blood shunting out of your digestive organs into your muscles. You're moving into fight or flight mode. You might be two or three steps away with a half scream. And then your prefrontal cortex catches up and goes, it's just a rubber hose. And as soon as the prefrontal cortex recognizes it's just a rubber hose, the whole system starts calming. This is a very important brain circuit for people to recognize. One of the jobs of the thinking parts of our brain is to evaluate the threats, the alarms, and when appropriate, turn off the alarm to take action to resolve it and turn off the alarm.
Many people, though, who end up with mental health problems or see me anyway, have disruption in this circuit where they don't turn off the alarm. In fact, their thought patterns inflame the alarm. It makes it worse.
They get negative ruminating loops of some kind going. And this often happens because of disruption of the Salience network. Salience means relevance or significance.
As information comes into your brain through the various sensory organs, it passes through an automatic network that is watching and filtering life signals for you. And if anything is significantly either excess, super rewarding or super threatening, the. The Salience network, the amygdala will tag that. Hey, pay attention. This is important. Shoot it up to your attention center. You don't want to miss this. Watch out for this. Either a threat or, or something very valuable that you want to remember to come back to later. Either one.
So as an example, as you're sitting there listening to me, your, your skin sensors are giving information to your brain on the pressure on your back and your legs from the chair pushing on your skin. That has been happening the entire time we've been talking, but it was not relevant. So your salience network did not require your attention to. For you to filter that out, was filtered out for you automatically. If, however, while you're listening to me right now, you start smelling smoke, like your building is on fire smoke, your salience network will not let you ignore that. That's important. Pay attention to that. And, and that is automatically filtering for you signals. Sometimes when something is signaled as important as a stress, as. As a threat of some sort, uncomfortable, unpleasant, and is being directed to your prefrontal cortex, many people will make a decision.
I don't want to think about that. That's painful. I Don't want to focus on that. That hurts. And thus they block that. Instead of leaning into it, in truth, they block it. Denial, distortion, avoidance, and so forth. But the brain then sends that into the front part of the brain, above the orbit of the eye, called the orbital cortex. Normal job of your orbital cortex is it's constantly monitoring you for whether you're doing things inappropriately and trying to direct you away from that to be more adaptive in the world. So if you were to this weekend at church, in the middle of the service, stand up and try to take all your clothes off in front of the congregation, your orbital cortex would immediately start firing like crazy. Don't do this. Don't do this. You get a sense of conviction and guilt to lead you away from that. That's its normal function.
When the salience network is disrupted and we're not thinking truthfully about what's stressing us, that stress is still known, and it's inside us. But the brain will send it into the orbital cortex, which normal job conviction of wrongdoing. And so people will then process whatever that stress is, not in truth, but through the filter of the system that's designed to give you a conviction of wrongdoing. So they get, it's my fault. I'm no good, I'm bad. And they get negative ruminating loops going that make things worse. And this is part of how the circuitry can be hijacked when people are avoiding objective truth. Now, why would they do it? Because they want to get worse? No, because they don't want to deal with the pain.
Example, where most people do this transiently is in the aftermath of a major life loss where somebody close to you has died and you know it's true. You verified it? It's not rumor, but yeah, but it's painful. So, yeah, I don't want to think about that right now. I don't know. I, I. And you get busy. You distract yourself, watch tv, go to work two extra shifts because you just don't want to lean in and deal with it, but you know it's true. So you're still processing it, but not now with your prefrontal cortex. Where is it going? Orbital cortex. And then people start ruminating thoughts like this.
It's my fault. If I would have had kept them on the phone 10 extra minutes last night, and they wouldn't have been in the intersection when the truck ran the red light and hit them. It's my fault for not staying on the phone. I got off early. They wanted to keep talking And I was tired, got off the phone, it's my fault. Or I knew their girlfriend just broke up with them, but I had another obligation. If I would have gone over last night instead of going to my other obligation, they wouldn't have killed themselves last night. It's my fault. And so that kind of process happens when we're disrupting the salience network. And then, and so that's the salience network attaching false meaning. And then that can encode in the deeper substructures of the tubulin, which gives you a negative affective valence of guilt shame, which then can reinforce the negative thoughts. Real change is both encoding truth and also changing the valence that is associated with it. And if people have had a delay in bringing truth to bear and have built a deeper resonant gestalt of motivation, then truth alone will not bring change. And this is what we see in addictions as a classic example, but the same thing with any sin and sinner.
Classic example, anxious person growing up with a lot of fear and anxiety. And at age 19 or 20, go to college and the first time somebody gives them some alcohol and they drink that alcohol and they relax and all that fear and social anxiety is relieved and they go to the parties and they just feel so much better.
What they're encoding is not just a cognitive fact that the alcohol reduces my anxiety. They're encoding an experience, a felt meaning. Alcohol feels good, not just a euphoric buzz. They're encoding alcohol helps me. Alcohol is my friend. And then they drink more, they get a problem, they get an alcohol use disorder, they've got legal problems, they got marriage problems, they got health problems. And eventually the facts of what alcohol is doing cognitively, synaptically encode I've got a problem with alcohol. Alcohol's no good. They cognitively accept the truth, but they don't break the habit because the deeper gestalt in the tubulin substructures are still encoded with a resonant frequency of yeah, that feels good. That's my friend. It helps me. And they won't actually have real freedom from their addiction until they actually move past just the factual to they do the deep heart work and re encode the deeper structures of the motivation and the salience changes the deeper resonant gestalt. Alcohol is not my friend. And they actually come to the point that alcohol resonates over on a different frequency of revulsion and discuss, not friend and longing.
[00:41:38] Speaker A: So would I don't want to simplify this too much, but You're a very experienced thousands of patients, I'm sure over the years.
Is it fair to say, or could I say that you could boil all these life issues, relational things, addictions, whatever.
If you kept going down deep enough, would you land at we're going back all the way to the Garden of Eden. The two lies that the enemy brought to. To Eve basically brought her a question to make her not see God clearly change her heart. Belief about God's character, nature. And then second, she's open to the lie about herself. You're naked is at the very, very root of everything.
[00:42:25] Speaker B: So. So a hundred percent.
With one exception. Yeah, 100. It traces back to Adam and Eve. That's 100. But. But the exception being us as individuals don't start in the position of Adam and Eve. We start in the position of a baby comes into the world. Born in sin, conceived iniquity. Psalms 51:5. We come into the world animated with the life passed down from father, the life passed down from mother. We both receive the breath of life, the animating spirit of fear and survival. So we all come into the world. Primary motivation of fear and survival seeking comfort, seeking, security for self. That's how we come into the world.
A loving parental home will provide love and structure. And that living relationship and good structure with parents allows real love to be experienced. That mitigates for the child, creating an atmosphere where. Where that sense of self can emerge in a loving home. Not completely controlled by the spirit of fear, but it does not remove or give them a new heart or save them. It just gives them a space to develop.
Example, a 3 year old on the beach with their parents, playing without any fear. And then a crowd comes between them and the parents. And they can't. They look up, they can't see their parents. What do you immediately see on the child's face?
Fear.
Where was that fear? It was always there. But in the loving home it mitigates, pushes it into the background to allow them to develop in a sense of self, in a domain of love and trust. Even though they're still in a position where their primary motive is not love and trust, their primary motive is still fear and survival. The loving parents raising them in the Lord lead them at age appropriate to surrender that life to Christ. Christ. And they're reborn with a new motive, the Holy Spirit. And now they have a. A new life. They can begin identifying a new identity forming that is no longer sought to survive and protect. Because they live in a position of identity with their Creator. And they trust him with who they are. And so they live in trust and love now and new motivation. This is structural, not just conceptual. When you have this experience, it changes the tubulin substructure and you resonate on a different frequency. You have a peace, a sense of wellness and you continue to grow down this. If you don't have that transition where you ultimately are reborn with the life of Christ, the indwelling Holy Spirit, then you spend your life attaching to yourself. You're making choices to bring in and find valuable encode into your brain things that give you comfort, give you security.
So you seek relationship, not to love others. Greater love is man that he gives life for a friend to bless others. You seek relationship to get your needs met, to comfort you. Now in those types of I need my needs met relationships, you may do many things that behaviorally look like you're loving others, serving others, but you're doing it to get affirmation, to get praise, to get comfort, to get a sense that you're valued, you're cared for, for you're not actually doing it from a heart of love until there's a true conversion experience. And you're doing it out of a heart of fear and insecurity. And this might not be relationship, it might be that you apply yourself to education and and to build competencies. And why are you doing that? Not primarily as a good steward of God and wanting your spirit temple to be healthy and to be useful in a cause grander than yours, but you're doing it to out compete the competition and ensure you have a secure place in your society and you're valued and looked up to the Pharisees in Christ's day, for instance. Or you may take the spirit of fear and go down the trail of healthy lifestyle, healthy living, such that your body image and your body development and your muscles and and your athletic performance becomes your sense of security. And you're not doing this again out of keeping your spirit temple health healthy for God's cause. You're doing this because your insecure ego needs your fear driven self. Does this to make you feel more valuable, to out compete others and to be more beautiful and to post your pictures and so forth and so on. And it can become very dysfunctional down the body dysmorphic trails and so forth. But we could go on all day. But does that make sense to you?
[00:46:48] Speaker A: Yes, very much so. And I just for the audience want to read on page 54 of the God shaped Brain because you list a bunch of different fears and you use the Word infected.
You know, God designed the physical world, put Adam into it, created Eve out of Adam.
And there was a design to it and it was beautiful and perfect and everything was in perfect resonance. But then an infection came in. Infection of fear and selfishness. But fear of failure, fear of what others think, fear of not getting the job, fear of not getting the guy or girl, fear of not getting the grade, fear of not being loved, fear of being alone.
And there, I mean you can go on and on and on because sometimes when people hear that word fear they might think well I'm not scared anything. But no, just do a little self observation, self study and you'll, you'll find that oftentimes you are a complete fear based outlook on life.
You know that sonship versus an orphan. An orphanesta doesn't know his daddy so he has to scrounge and scrape for everything. And so many times for me personally back in the day, before I started understanding this coming out of religion into the kingdom that I was acting as an orphan, I was fearful of so much.
And that drives decision making. And then all these loops in, in the neurons and the water lattice in my neurons now that I'm understanding and it just self perpetuates. So ultimately getting down to that, understanding that, that the word that's sharper than a two edged swords got to come in and carve out and, and separate that spirit of fear and that new spirit of love and truth. Holy Spirit needs to come in to set me free. Now we have our soul. And maybe, I mean we've got 10, 12 minutes left. Dr. Jennings and I heard you talk about this analogy of soft, the computer software, hardware, the electric, the power.
But body, soul, spirit.
Maybe we could go through that before we have to wrap this thing up and try to come to a conclusion here. But it's been an amazing interview, thank you so much. But I love that analogy.
[00:49:00] Speaker B: Could you go no, no, no, that's exactly right. Functional human beings, the Bible is very clear on have three parts. We have a physical body. God made Adam out of the dirt of the earth and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, became a living being. But the Bible, Jesus, Hebrews, multiple places, Thessalonians describes that we have a body, soul and a spirit. The Greek the body is the physical structure. And if we use the example of a computer, that'd be analogous to the hardware, the actual machine.
But having a computer machine is not operational. You have to have something more. We have to have software, we have to have an operating system and The Greek word in the New Testament for soul is psyche. From where we get psychiatry and psychology. And thus our soul is our unique person at our unique chosen lived experiences, encoded chosen meanings. The things that we identify as valuable. Our memories and our, our, our loves, our hates. The things that we as individuals, free beings encode into our hearts and minds that make us who we are. And that is not determined by the physical body we're walking around in. That is determined by our chosen experiences and how we code things. And then a computer has software and a computer has hardware, but it's still not functional. It needs one more thing. It needs the energy, the animating energy for computers, electricity for us. It's the breath of life that comes from God. The animating frequency of life which breathed into Adam was perfect love and trust. And they had a perfect sinless existence until they freely chose to encode lies that structurally changed them. And the frequency harmonic and the animating energy, the spirit shifted from love and trust to fear and survival.
And thus the Bible tells us that the word of God is living and active. Sharper than a two edged sword dividing or separating soul from spirit. What is that talking about what I just went through. We come into the world animated by a spirit of fear. And as we begin moving through life, we begin making sense self story. Who am I? Who is the world? What's safe, what's secure, what's a threat. We begin making a worldview, a model, an understanding, a perspective, a schema. We're all doing it all the time. And it is driven primarily from birth by a spirit of fear.
And thus we form a soul, an identity, a personhood, a word worldview on who we are. That's primarily before conversion, driven by a spirit of fear.
And, and it doesn't work, it's incoherent. It will lead to actions of survival, stealing the cookie, lying, cheating, all the things that, that you know, most of us even in grade school were doing a little bit of and, and we had loving parents that corrected us to keep us on the right path of going really down though. But some people go very down those paths and society has to correct them with incarceration.
We're not cast off yet, but that system is incoherent and you're getting worse. And as the pain and suffering of those incoherent and unhealthy decisions are occurring, those are opportunities for us to step back and go this isn't working. The prodigal son in the pig slop is when he goes, this isn't working. I've got to go home. I got to get back to coherence. And that's when we can then begin making decisions. Go to the Word, Word of God. And as we study the Word and the Holy Spirit leads us to truth. And we choose the truth not just to comprehend. The smoker comprehends that smoking is harmful.
That comprehension alone does not free them from smoking. There has to be a choice of application and heart resonance shift. And that, that is the real transformation that comes. But when we make that choice, the word of God, the truth encoding and then applied, that actually then separates our soul, our identity, our personhood from the old animation of fear. And we choice by choice, truth by truth moment. To trust God versus react to survival instincts to protect self. When we have clarity, this is the love, trust and God action, this is the fear of survival action. And we have clarity there. And we choose the trust action.
That moment encodes into us a new experience changing our resonance, bringing us ever in harmony with the Holy Spirit and our soul. Our individuality is being separated from the spirit of fear. That's how this whole process works in reality. And so yeah, I think so. So then when, when Christ comes, what do we get? We get new hardware, we get a hardware upgrade.
And I and for all of those who are reborn, we retain, we continue to have eternal life. The gift of God is eternal life because we're sharing the life of Christ. No longer I to live, but Christ lives in me. Or as Peter wrote, we become partakers of the divine nature. So our identities, our souls are being cleansed by the influence of the indwelling spirit. As we choose to identify with and say yes to the Spirit's leading. We're being transformed.
[00:53:56] Speaker A: So good.
And I love, I know we don't have time to get into it, but I do want to mention it for the listeners to go get the book.
The understanding of sleep death versus sleeping.
Like unplug the power from the. Or the computer loses power and it goes to sleep. And then that, that was huge because a lot of people have get some conflict in their heart on God's character nature when they see a lot of the, the death in the Old Testament. But you have a great understanding of that that I'd never heard before. It was super.
[00:54:30] Speaker B: So I'm going to tell your audience about a resource that we'll have coming out on our website within the next two weeks.
Just a week and a half ago I did a 13 part seminar in Orlando, Florida called the God of Reality Separating Truth from Fiction seminar. Went through 13 presentations and they're in post production right now and they will be available for free on our website before the second week of September. So. And they will go through all of this with, with beautiful graphics, some animations, biblical. It's going to integrate. We start with the question of how do you know what's true and what's ultimately authoritative. We go through a whole program on the science that confirms God's creation and refutes the whole materialistic thing. And then we have a whole program on what kind of power runs the universe, differentiating quantum from Newtonian physics. And then we go through the whole question of, of what we talked about, the encoding of sin, the neural, neural substructures and then cascading all the way through to the solution. So I, I think people will find this very helpful.
[00:55:36] Speaker A: And that website, guys, again comeandreason.com highly recommend you get on there and utilize all those resources, especially the new stuff coming that Dr. Jennings just mentioned.
Last question. Dr. Jennings. It may not be fair to ask it at the end so you can say we'll do part two, but.
And maybe it's not fair to try to get in the mind of God or the heart of God.
Why do you. Because I'm in agreement 100% with you about the free choices that, that men and humans get to make.
Why do you think God did that?
Why did, why not just create some robots in a really cool, you know, physical realm universe and just let this thing run and function and be beautiful?
Why do you think we, we have. He did it that way. The choice, the ability to choose the wrong thing and let someone.
[00:56:33] Speaker B: In my understanding, he's, he did it with foreknowledge.
He wasn't caught off guard by giving us freedom and said oh, didn't see that one coming. No, he foresaw Jesus, Lamb of God slain from the foundation of the world. He foresaw and foreknew and he did it anyway. And why? Because I truly believe God is love, not God is loving.
God is love. And love only exists in freedom.
And so the creating a simulation, creating a, a system of robots that is a control freak, that, that is not love. And so the fact that this problem has occurred is evidence that God gives real freedom and is evidence that God is love. One of the things I think we can be quite arbitrary, not arbitrary, non compromising on is God will never take our freedom because he is love.
He will not compromise that. He would rather die on the cross and let his creatures kill him. Innocent though he is then use his power to take their freedom from them.
That's how important freedom is. Because without freedom there is no love. So that's what I think. I really think God is loving it. I think when you see it in its true context, as horrible as this, and as painful as it's been to all of us, but even more so to him, even more so to him, people should reflect on how has it been more so painful to God? We don't have time to go in that today, but way more so to him who lives outside of time.
And all points are alike with him than it has been to us. And it was still important to give us freedom because love actually is more important than, than the pain of, of going through the process to remove this infection that's interfering with love. He'd rather go through the, the pain of removing it than to not have it. What's the old saying? It's better to love and lost than never to love at all.
[00:58:35] Speaker A: Yeah. Right.
Well, and then the one final comment I'll have is, and, and maybe, and you, you can correct me because competition sometimes is one of my weaknesses.
But the part about the body of Christ and Jesus is the head and one body, but this manifold wisdom of God, unknown from ages past, but now it's made known the church which is his body, is going to put on display the multifaceted, innumerable wisdom of God to the spiritual forces and powers in the heavenly realms, I. E. The fallen angels.
So in part of this equation, you know, the angels didn't trust, they went their own way. Lucifer and the fallen angels and God's, it's like, oh yeah, there's this creature lower than the angels who's actually going to choose to trust this invisible word and that corporate body of people with Jesus as a head and one spirit, all bound together in unity and love is actually going to put on display my multi sided wisdom to you fallen angels.
And what an amazing thing.
Again, I could be off in my
[00:59:44] Speaker B: motivation of that, but no, no, I, I think that's beautiful. And that's exactly what reality does.
You know, it's, it's a unity inherent in our faith.
When people from different walks all are applying the same design, law, principles of God, they experience the same healing and restoration, come back to the same harmonic, the same frequency, operate on the same motivations, the spirit of truth and love that they have, different life experiences they have, they may have a different understanding of an interpretation of a, of a particular text, but they have the same motive of love. For God, love for others, love for truth, understanding. They're finite so they're open to be corrected on any fact. They don't understand correctly, but they're not driven by fear and survival, they're driven by love and trust. And thus there's an ever increasing coherence and unity. And I've already experienced this in my travels around the world. When people share the same picture and understanding of our creator God and his design, laws of truth, love and freedom, there is coherence. There's a unity.
That resonant that we talked about in your, in the, in the lattice water and your TB1. It is not only an encoder, it is a receiver. Just like the crystal glass, if you flip it, it actually sends a signal, but if you hit a tuning fork near it, it begins vibrating with it. It's a receiver. And thus when you are encoding God's truth and his principles, there is a unity, there is a, there's a harmony. And this is why we enjoy more and more the people of God and we have less comfort around those that are encoding the systems of the world. You know, birds of a feather flock together. There's, this is a reality based cohesion that happens. But your brain, your brain wants harmony, wants, you know, it does not like dissonance.
That's why if you as a righteous person invest and spend time around the unrighteous consistently, that's dangerous. Bad company corrupts good character because all that other frequency you're in dissonance and there's a unconscious pressure to align with and be in harmony with the dissonant and it has a corroding influence on you. And so that again when you understand that makes it even more amazing that Jesus walked 33 and a half years on this planet in pure holy resonance and was not corrupted by any of that. It's just amazing.
[01:02:21] Speaker A: Yeah, incredible. And guys, we gotta wrap this up. I know, gotta respect Dr. Jennings time, but just there's so much going on in the world. So much seems like disclosure or just revelation of so much corruption and craziness and evil and it can be. And of course social media, it's just this constant bad news. It seems like just. And, and what Dr. Jennings just said, if you get your mind, it's a battle of our minds and if you're constantly looking at that, consuming that and stressing and worry and fear and oh no. And, and, and then even if you try to get some solution going, that's not kingdom, that's not holy Spirit led, it's just gonna. That resonance isn't going to be there. There's one solution. It's the kingdom. And the kingdom is Holy Spirit writing it on our heart. And. And it's happening. I see pockets of it everywhere. And I'm sure Dr. Jennings could too.
[01:03:13] Speaker B: And we.
[01:03:13] Speaker A: We don't have time to talk about all. But, guys, I just want to encourage you. The kingdom's coming more and more and more as we get this understanding we walk in this truth. It's. And it really comes down to trusting that God is love. So if there's anything in your heart that's causing a question mark in your heart of being that God is love, then we got to work through that. You got to work through that and seek wise counsel and great resources like Dr. Jennings to clear those question marks up all the way back to that question mark Eve got on her heart. You got to clear those question marks up in your hearts what Jamie Winship talks about. Kingdom, empire, fear versus connection, separation versus connection. All these guys talking about the same thing. It's down to these root things about God knowing God for who he really is. So, Dr. Jennings, thank you for all you do, all your work. It's amazing. So glad my. One of my wellness navigators introduced me to you. Would love to have you back someday.
[01:04:03] Speaker B: Thank you.
[01:04:05] Speaker A: All right, everybody, this will be on our website, veritaswellnessmember. Com, all the podcast platforms, please share it far and wide so people can know the truth and be set free. We'll see you next week. Bye. Bye.
