Show Notes

This week on You're the Cure, Dr. Ben welcomes back Leif Hetland for a deep dive into his book Called To Reign. Leif unpacks his "three chairs" framework: Chair One (identity in Christ, rooted in love), Chair Two (the orphan spirit, living for approval instead of from it), and Chair Three (the world). He shows how easily believers slide from resting in sonship into striving, fear, and performance without even noticing.

They talk about why intimacy with the Father, not information or willpower, is what actually keeps us anchored in Chair One, and how fatigue, unmet expectations, and constant news cycles quietly drain the "emotional tank" that leaves the door open for fear. Leif shares stories from Nigeria, Pakistan, and his own health struggles that show what it looks like to receive identity, intimacy, and inheritance before ever stepping into destiny, and why trying to skip straight to "doing" is exactly backwards.

If you've ever felt like you're squeezing out the wrong thing under pressure, this conversation is an invitation to trade striving for rest, and pressure for the Father's pleasure.

[00:00:02] Speaker A: Hey everybody. Welcome to another episode of you're the Cure. We've got a great show today, a repeat guest with an amazing book, almost 10 years old now called Terrain. Leif Hetland. If you don't re. If you haven't heard the interview we did, it's been a number of months ago with Life on Sonship, the Orphan spirit versus Sonship. Definitely go find that. It's archived on our website. It's on all the podcast platforms too. But you'll be able to find it most easily through the search bar on our website. Website veritas wellnessmember.com I've asked Leif to come back and talk about this book because it was so impactful for me. You know, we're in a season of information overload almost, I would say. You can get information from everywhere, social media in particular. These things right here, I think were designed to actually keep your attention and they do and that. And there's information coming in, but what goggles or glasses are they coming in through? And on page 47 of this book, again called To Rain, is the book. Multitudes of people, including Christians, need brand new glasses. And I would concur with that because all the things happening in the world need to be interpreted. And so what lens are you interpreting from? And the reason we talk about it here on this podcast, which obviously I'm a doctor. It's a 10 year, 12 year old radio show slash podcast. Now. It used to be all about healing and the physical, natural things, especially dietary and all that which are important stewardship things. But what we've come to learn after 14 years of integrative medicine and 10 years of conventional medicine before that is our thoughts impact our DNA and our mitochondria and the water that is inside our cells and outside our cells. And all it's all in the Bible. As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he in the power. Life and death in the tongue. And all issues of life flow out of the wellspring of the heart. Our heart beliefs are absolutely essential for health. Life has a healing ministry. He could probably tell us all kinds of stories about miracle healings, divine healing. Jesus bought and paid for our health, but he's also been on the surgeon's table and in a full body cast. I read in the book and we may get into some of that. It's not a formula. What it is is it's on the back of the book here in the, in the book's broken down these four sections. Identity, identity, identity, intimacy, inheritance, destiny and that keyword intimacy is in my own life. I can say. I mean, I miss that. It wasn't modeled, it wasn't taught. It doesn't naturally come the way I'm wired. It is absolutely essential. It's how Jesus lived his life. He was in relationship with his father, every day would go, listen and see and then only say and do what he saw his father saying and doing. So the intimacy part is absolutely huge. But I'm gonna let life talk now. Thank you so much for coming. The last interview was so powerful. It brought me to tears. I think it brought you to tears too, if I recollect. And I know a lot of the audience too, because I got so much great feedback and amazing feedback. So thank you for coming back. I know you so much work around the world for the body of Christ and humanity in general. So thank you for carving out an hour to be with us today and speak to my audience. But just any opening remarks you have before we dive into the book. [00:03:29] Speaker B: No, I, I just thought about in Luke 19:10, it says that Jesus came to save that which was lost. It doesn't have entered directly, but I just want to share a quick testimony because last week I was in Nigeria and we had brought all these people have been persecuted and we had several hundred widows from the north where there's Christian being killed and persecuted. But we decided to bring the victims to Abuja, the capital city, to minister to them and love on them. And I could hardly sleep that night. And that verse just hit me that Jesus came to save not just those that was lost, but it says that which was lost. So that 12:30 in the morning you're getting this one verse. And so I just felt all these ladies had never learned how to read and write. And so I lined up the ladies up front and I got the videos and pictures of. And I just felt I had a word from the Lord and to watch the faces as they started to read something they never learned the Alphabet, never learned anything. I had a couple of doctors with me there on their team and watching supernatural. We had five ladies that started at their, I mean 40 to 60 years old, never learned the Alphabet, started to read the Bible because Jesus came to save that which was lost. We saw stroke victims healed, blind eyes open, deaf ears open, and so many miracles. But it was just such a joy. But also the very message that we're going to talk about today, the biggest thing for me was the enemy had stolen the identity of so many different people. And so when I did my three chair message which is the very book that you are referring to, to see them getting their identity back. Because now when you know it is the father's good pleasure to give his sons and daughters good gifts, there was this shift to change in the atmosphere when they had a baptism of love, got the security in who they are and who's. Then out of that there was the intimacy to be able to receive. And then everything that Jesus paid for inheritance, they were able to receive. To watching that taking place in the front of my eyes, it was just such an encouragement. So I had to just share with you that you're getting one verse in the middle of the night and you didn't realize what it meant until the next day. You line up all these people and in the front of the eyes of several 3,000 people in this room watching this happening in front of them, with all the scientific people watching, it was just beautiful. Because even the Mayans and everybody else that they knew to create a miracle that just took place as these women start to read the Bible when they've never learned even the Alphabet. So I'm saying that even as an encouragement for people that are out there, that whatever is taking place in your journey and your life, that in Luke 19:10, Jesus says, Jesus came to save that which was lost. So I just feel like there's a lot of redemption of things that what the enemy meant for evil, God wants to use for good. [00:06:18] Speaker A: Right? Absolutely. And you know, I wanted to just say so many people in my circle and patients, friends, family in this region, the, the Bible, obviously God's word written word is so important and we read these verses and they're in us. But then Holy Spirit comes. [00:06:38] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:06:38] Speaker A: And writes truth on our heart and unlocks even a one word like this. So the Holy Spirit part of this is so important and that's where the relationship and intimacy comes in. Because there's so many aha. Moments to happen. But maybe we should start there with the chairs. There's actually this chair right on the COVID of the book. And you, you talk about the chair analogy so much throughout the book. Chair one and two. And so maybe let's start there, explain to the audience. And before we hit record, you mentioned this is the most watched teaching that you do, the most popular teaching that you do around the world. So let's probably start there. [00:07:14] Speaker B: It is. And it's been a 26 year journey. And it started with myself where I didn't realize in one moment you were full of faith and courage. And then suddenly something happens. Can be an Attack or something. And I didn't realize what happened. In one moment you have the dove, you have depressants, you have. And then the next moment there's pigeon. In one moment you have faith. And then something happened, fear comes in. And I didn't realize. And I still remember it was in 2000 that the whole chair development and I had just been in the water. Faith chur saw all his healing and then I didn't realize pride crept in. On my way home, I was just like thought how great I was instead of how great Jesus was. So he just showed me. He just backed out for a moment. And the next. That night, they were going to bring people from institution and down syndrome and all these things. They were so excited because what they saw in the morning. But then suddenly I got crippled by fear because I realized there's nothing I can do to heal or save anybody. And through that whole process, I realized, which chair are you in right now? And I realized I was crippled in fear. And so I repented from my pride, went back to the resting place, my identity of who I am. Looking at the A that I had on my report card now I have the visual at that time, but I didn't know what was happening. So you just. But I went back again to chair one. And so I just become actually something that I do on a daily basis. If that's my relationship with my wife here in the office, we use this language everywhere because we all know that there's a lot of shaking going on. And in the middle of all the shaking and all the culture conflicts, war going on, we're all being affected. So for me, Jesus was always in chair one. So what I do is I put three chairs up on the stage in front of people as a visual. Chair number one, which is all about the kingdom of God, the people. In chair number one, you are rooted in love. You know who you are and whose you are. You're operating. The supernatural is natural. It is the Jesus lifestyle that he had called us to be. And Jesus was always in chair one. Chair two is about the kingdom of self. And it's actually self is in the center. Even salvation and everything else, self is there. It's what Jesus can do for me, but it's about me and there's none like me. I joke with that. When Lenny LeBlanc wrote the song there's none like you and I sang it, there's none like me. That's kind of the chair too. It's about me. And I didn't like that sermon I didn't like that verse in the back. Or why did he get healed and not me? And me, me, me, me. And it's what Paul call a carnal Christian. That's chair two. And chair three is the kingdom of the world. They are lost. So the majority of world's population are lost. And that could be almost 2 billion Muslims, over a billion Hindus, 600 million Buddhists. And we could describe chair three, but it's also the majority of America are in chair three and they are lost, they're living in darkness. But what I realized in my research when I started to do this was that, that 93% of the people that are lost have never met. They never had an encounter with a Chair one believer. They met a lot of chair two believers, but not somebody that looked like Jesus. So if Jesus calls us to be like him, to become like him and to live and love like him, that's the whole discipleship process is for us to be with Jesus, then to become like our rabbi, our master, and then learning how to do what our master did. And the people will know who we are. We are Christian because we've been with Christ, we're Christ, like that nature. So we have actually been abnormal for so long that when the normal happened, we believe it is abnormal. So that started my process. So like we talked about last time, the orphan wall is based in chair two. Because I have to do something, to have something, to become something. While the chair one is I am, I am. And because of who I am, I already have. And because of what I have, I do. So it is not what you do that makes you who you are chair two, it is who you are that makes you do what you do Chair one. And that's a whole different paradigm that was helping the believers so that when you get into chair two, we all do. There's very few people that stay in chair one all the time. But the biggest thing that I think the book and what we were able to help with a language is when I'm in chair two, recognize have self awareness than knowing how to get back to chair one. So even shalom or wholeness in every area of your life, how that's connected to chair one living spirit, soul, body and then river that flows the life that flows out of you because you are in an alignment for your assignment. While chair two, that's when you will recognize because fear, shame and guilt is the root system underneath the surface. And the iceberg is 90% of your life is underneath than what you don't see. And some of those where there's toxic thinking, like you said, or there's roots of fear, or there's all these different things, how that is affecting your body, how it affects your spirit, it affects every aspect of your life. So for me, it was helping people to deal with the Chair two issues. The root issue, second of all, learning how to get into Chair one and then how to stay in Chair one. But then when you get to Chair two, do not live with condemnation, but an invitation to get back to Chair one said automatically. So what are some of the ways that can get you back again? To eventually find rest, to eventually to hear his voice, to see his face, to feel his love, to experiencing his presence. So the model of Chair one is Jesus in every area. And even the disciple Peter is a Simon in Chair two. Then Peter and you go back and forth until the end of the journey. He had a love encounter in John 21, and he changed. And from that moment on, he became a Peter became courageous, became Chair 1. He visited Chair 2 for a few moments, but he went back to Chair one. That was his new identity. And this is what my heart will be for all of us as believers is that Chair one is not going to be a visitation. There was a revival service or special Sunday. Oh, Papa, God visited us. And then we live with visitation because we don't know to have habitation. And then we live in Chair two. And the sadness is, I've had thousands of people telling me I didn't even know that chair one existed. All I've known about chair two, I had one pastor who build a church of 3,000 people. He said, all I knew was chair two. The way to do marriage was chair two. The way I did finances, the way I did health, the way I preached, the way I lived my life. I only knew about Chair 2, which is living for love instead of from love. It was trying to achieve what you only can receive. And so that started my process. When I wrote the book, it was to help people with a framework of who are you? Identity. Identity. That's leg number one in Chair one. Where are you? Intimacy. What do you have? Inheritance. Everything that Jesus paid for. But that's connected to your identity and your intimacy. Then there's inheritance. And then what are your. What are you called to do? Your destiny, your calling, your uniqueness. Your special sauce says that by the orphan world is I go on the airplane. I did it last week. Somebody sitting by the side of me and they ask, what do you do again? Because they're going to Measure us by what we do. And that's the value system in the orphan world. Because if you do, you will have, you will become. And it's chair two. And it is so opposite to the kingdom. It is striving is stress factor. And all of these things that comes from chair to living, how that is affecting people, including how to receive from God, which is very difficult in chair two. But in chair one, freely I receive, freely I give, is living under a open heaven where you are connected, you are abiding in him. And love, joy, peace is coming out of you when you get squeezed in life while in chair two, it's very different. [00:15:09] Speaker A: Yes, you get squeezed in Life in Chair 2. I think it was Dan Mohler that said if you squeeze an orange, you should get orange juice. But so many people, including Christians, you squeeze them. And how, how weird it is to get apple juice from an orange. You know what comes out of us in that fire, in that moment of squeeze, is it. That's a recognition point. And the you mentioned earlier, the key is to daily recognize, oops, I just slipped in the chair too. What. What would you say are some of the most common? Maybe it's a tactic or scheme of the enemy, but that people fall for what lie do they fall for? That moves them to chair too. Are there common thoughts of life? [00:15:55] Speaker B: One of the things that I've observed, doctor, is that when the fatigue level watch your emotional tank. Because often the enemy uses fatigue, even doing God's work, God's way. But with all of the news that is going on and all of those different things, we're burning a lot of fuel of our emotional tank and he's just waiting. So starts with fatigue, then he pushes the button of fear. Then he said you failed, then forsaken, he isolate you. And now you have pain in your life. And that pain seeks pleasure in chair two and you try to medicate and it is either rebellion or religion that is often the tendency then when you get in chair two. So I've seen that over and over again, like in my own life, often when I'm tired and my fatigue level. So the question then for us, what is some of the gainer and the drainer in your energy? It's not always about time management, but energy management. So like lately I've had a lot of expense in regard to my energy, meaning there's been a lot of not knowing, there's been a lot of different pressure. I've had some health diagnosis. I'm waiting for some result. So you're going through and you're dealing with a lot of different things. We have a crisis in Pakistan going on, I have a crisis in Cuba. So I just realized, oh, I've had 11, 12 different expenses in my emotional tank. And then the enemy just waits till I get down to E. Then he pushes the button of fear. And then at that moment now I'm in the wrong chair. Then he starts to blackmail you. So he was the one that set up the trap, but now he blackmailed you and he reminds you about your failure instead of God's faithfulness. And then shame comes in and then guilt comes in and then you're going in there and if you do not know and have a self awareness what's taking place, you get stuck there. And when you get stuck there, it is just a matter of time that you're either going to try to work yourself out of that through religion or the second thing is you're going to medicate it, do something to make you feel good. That is unhealthy in chair two. And we see that that's from the food or that can be pornography or that can be certain medicine or alcohol, whatever. There's a long list of things that people do because pain seeks pleasure. So that's one big thing that I've seen in when people are moving chair often when I watched their emotional tank early on I could see what our expenses are. So that's one of the major areas that I see that the enemy is attacking. Because fear is the major root in chair two and love is the major root in chair one. So the roots and the foundation in chair one is love. But the root and the foundation in chair two is fear. So when fear comes in as a root, like this morning, I had some anxiety and fear. I didn't know where it came from. It just there were some different things that in regard to some diagnosis and it just crept in. So I had to actually I can choose at that moment something called consolation or desolation. Consolation. I lean myself towards chair one. So the big question when the crisis came in and I had a couple of three, four crisis this morning that just comes in from around the wall that I dealt with. And then loud it's like with Peter walking a wonder, what if this is if this is you, Jesus, tell me if this is you. So the close you are, there is an if in chair one. It is an if faith. Oh, this is going to be another upgrade or this storm here is going to lead to another because he's going to use all things out for good. So when I'm in chair one, I lean towards faith with my loud. The bigger the problem are, the louder the if becomes. And the if faith is, oh, if this is you, God, tell me to come, I'm going to walk on water. There's going to be an opportunity for you to bring glory to yourself if it was not for this crisis. And I will have a whole history with a God the same. He was faithful with a beer and a lion. Now when I face my Goliath, this is going to be another victory. But when I lean myself towards desolation, fear, shame, guilt, and then you're suddenly moving into anxiety and all those other things in chair two. And then the superglue is there and it starts to affect your body. And I start to feel this anxiety. I could feel the tightness in my chest. So having a weird, ah, that's what's taking place right now. I'm in chair two. So I don't see the world the way it is. I see the world the way I am. But I don't have the proper glasses on. I don't have 2020 vision in chair two. I never have because I cannot see the Father's face. I cannot hear his voice. It's not that he is not there, but I, at that moment are not able to see or hear or feel what the Father feels. So my invitation then, and here's one of the scripture verses that I use, because the enemy then will come with condemnation. Hey, you did it again. [00:20:43] Speaker A: Yeah, here we go again. [00:20:45] Speaker B: Here we go again. But Jesus comes with an invitation. And this is one of my key scripture verse for this. It's Matthew 11, 28, 30. He says, Leif, come to me. You who are weary, you feel a little bit weary right now and heavy laden. If you're weary and heavy laden, that's only chair two. In chair one, you're not weary or heavy laden. That's an invitation for people in chair two feel a bit weary and heavy because of circumstances, alive. Come, come, and I'm going to give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me. I'm low and meek, or humble and hard, and I give you rest for your soul, because my burden is easy and my yoke is light. So it's an invitation why the enemy comes with a condemnation. So that's another tool that I use. As soon as I'm in chair two and I start to feel some condemnation, I can listen to Jesus say, come, if you have issue, you're qualified. If you have sickness, you're qualified, you struggle, you're qualified, whatever, you're struggling. He says, come, and I'm going to give you a different operating. Chair one is always a resting place. So another thing that I know, I know I am in chair one when I'm resting, and there's always peace and wisdom flows from that place. I know myself, and often when I coach people with this, I know I am in chair two when I feel restless, I feel I need to do something. And there's a lack of peace. That's my biggest indicator. I'm in chair two. Doesn't matter what I feel or not. The restlessness is there. I feel I need to do something. And the lack of shalom, peace, where wholeness comes from. So at that moment, I know it's an invitation for me to get back to Chair one. And even for us, theologically, we talked about it a little bit last time. Here's also a theological problem that 90% of the believers have, because we do believe God is holy, and we're totally. Nobody's going to be in a disagreement, hopefully on this program, that God is holy. But what we learn about holiness, he could not handle sin. So when there's sin in our life, and of course, if we're in chair too, there are some sin issues. God could not handle sin. So the tendency for us is we try to be clean. We try to be clean, to take a bath. We feel we need to do something to fix something for the Father to accept us. But then if you look at Luke 15, where Jesus showing us a different Father, he's actually the prodigal. He was a son. He was chair two. He was not chair three a lost. He was a lost son, but he was a son in chair two. He smelled like a pig. And I mean, he had not repented. He's coming home and he had wasted everything. I mean, it is as big violation as you can get in Jewish tradition where he even ate a food or pig. But the Father was looking. The Father was full of compassion. The Father was running, the Father was embracing, and the Father was kissing those five steps in Luke 15:20. I know at my worst moment, my Father is not looking away from me. He's looking towards me. So sin, it's not that he cannot handle sin. Just look at Jesus. Jesus is perfect theology. No sinners and tax collectors love coming to Jesus. And if we are in chair one, we know that sinners love coming to us if we are in Jesus. But we have learned this religious thing that he cannot have now, what happens is with sin is we are the one that turning away from his love and from his holiness. So repentance as a lifestyle is turning back to where you belong. Come home, turn back into the affection of the Father and to receive. And I've seen this so many different times that the enemy, as soon as you're messing up, then in the next moment you are trying to get all these things in order to get back again. Humility is the key to chair one and there's always grace. God resists the proud. So if I think I can do this myself and I can handle this and I, I, I cheer. Two, pride is the biggest hindrance. But in humility, it's like, I can't do this, but you can and I'm coming home. That's an invitation. With humility, there's always grace. God resists the proud, but he always gives grace to the humble. So just if you have an issue, humble yourself and come back home where you belong. And there's grace, which is God's ability that is available for you in every circumstance and situation. So it's just a beautiful picture. And I could tell so many stories of going between these chairs, but even now how staff in businesses are using it, in churches they're using it, marriages are using it. And it's so beautiful when I'm hearing the story after story of testimony of lives being transformed, of people that used to live in chair two and maybe visit chair one, but now the new lifestyle is chair one. A lifestyle of abiding, a lifestyle of living fully loved, of wholeness in all areas of their life. [00:25:36] Speaker A: So good. I want to talk about intimacy, but before I do, I want to read this from page 48. You've already talked about it, but I want people to really hear it. So I'm going to repeat what you've already said, but from the book, it says most of the world believes they have to do something in order to have something, so they can be something. That is not how we were originally designed. And this is my commentary here on that. There's a design, this incredible physical body we talk about all the time, the mitochondria, the DNA, the all the things on stewardship. But this design, the physical is impacted by the non physical, by our thoughts, by our heart beliefs. So back to the quote. That is not how we were originally designed. In God's design, we are something, so we have everything and then can do anything. To be specific, we are in a covenant relationship with the Father because we are sons and Daughters. And because we are sons and daughters, we have an inheritance. And with that inheritance we have, we can fulfill our assignment, our destiny being, then having, then doing. You will find that your natural tendency as. As a result of the fall is to do in order to have and to have in order to be so good. Guys, it's on page 47 of the book. Get the book. You can camp out on that, those two paragraphs right there. Because our natural tendency, we've been raised to perform, perform, perform, do, do, do. And so many people, especially I'm going to say young people, you graduate from high school, you're supposed to go to the university and pick your major. What are you going to do with the rest of your life? And everybody wants to do something. And we, we want to do good, productive things. But we're so focused on this last thing, destiny, that the kind of last thing on the list here. But we've got the wrong lens, we've got the wrong heart, we've got the wrong understanding that destiny. We can't fully kingdom destiny without these first steps, the identity, the intimacy, the inheritance and then the destiny. So there's an order to it. But so much of is what we. We've been trained up to do, do, do instead of be and. And feel free to comment on that life or. But where I was going to go next was that intimacy part. Like, you might get a lot of this after you study and you realize, oh yeah, I've been operating as an orphan when I'm a son, and you start to understand some of this. But then to really stay there is this intimacy part of things. So I kind of want to move into that. But feel free to comment on anything I just said. [00:28:29] Speaker B: No, I just think that Jesus is perfect theology. He's also the model for you and I how to live. I want to love like Jesus, live like Jesus, lead like Jesus, and leave a legacy like Jesus. So my journey in life in this discipleship. But to do that, we need to get back to the foundation of what was the foundation of Jesus, because he is our example. And I Love the Matthew 3:17. We talked a little bit about it last time he was baptized in water, heaven opened up, the dove came down, meaning he was baptized in the Spirit. And the dove didn't visit him. It remained on him for the next three and a half years. So why would you want visitation of the dove and then live with pigeons the rest of the week? And we call it revival if the dove visit us. But the dove stayed on Jesus. But it was something more. And that's what we talked a little bit last time. He was immersed in the Father's love. This is my beloved Son, whom I love and whom I am well pleased. That was before he did anything, meaning before he healed any sick, before he did any miracle, before he preached a sermon. He was baptized in water, Heaven opened up. He was baptized in the Spirit, but then he was immersed or baptized in the Father's love. But you will find the secret of all Jesus love was connected to the baptism of love, which I believe has been the missing piece in the focus, because you see it right afterwards. The Spirit led him into the wilderness to be tested. And all of us go through testings in life. And some people never pass the test and have to do the same test over and over again. And those tests is, hey, if you are a son, you need to do something. Turn this rock into bread. If you are a son, all three tests is connected to that. I am what I do, I am what I have, and I am what people said that I am. And you can see it on social media. Does anybody like me? Does anybody want me? [00:30:25] Speaker A: Does anybody? [00:30:26] Speaker B: Those same tests over and over again. But if you do have the affirmation of the Father and the anointing of the Spirit and you're being tested, you're going to come out of the wilderness full of the Spirit like Jesus. And you can say, the Spirit of the Lord is upon me and he has anointed me in the middle of the bad news, I have good news, and you can start to operate in the same power that he did. So for me, just going back to the foundation of Jesus, he knew his identity, he knew who he was and whose he was, the intimacy that he had with the Father. And I think this is so fascinating for me when I'm studying the life of Jesus so many times, even before there was crisis. Like one example is when the storm is about to happen and Jesus had just been with the Father, and you see that after many, many of these incidences, so he could sleep in the middle of a storm, because where the Father is, there was no storm. You could see in one moment, he came after being with the Father, and the disciples said, could you teach us how to pray? Could you teach us to have this intimacy that you have with the Father? Because one thing we have noticed, when you have been with the Father and you come down, all these things starts to happen. Could you teach us how to pray? And Jesus said, well, it's not just my papa, but it's Our Father, we honor his name. Then we will see his kingdom come and his will be done on earth, in our lives, in our family, on earth as it is in heaven. So you can see that over and over again that Jesus, he had such an intimacy with the Father. I do what I see my Father do. But if we have the wrong view of the Father, then you will never get the proper view of yourself and you will never get the proper view of the world. I actually wrote a book called Seeing Through Heaven's Eyes that deal with worldview. How do you see God? How does God see you? How do you see the world? And how do you see the future? So we do not see the world the way it is. We see the world the way we are. But until we have a 2020 vision where I see me the way that my Father sees me, because that's the truth. And knowing that truth sets me free. If not, I'm going to listen to what other people are saying or my upbringing or what a culture is saying or based upon the report. Cardinal I have an A, not because of what I've done, but because of what Jesus has done. And my identity is in him and he is in me. So there's no pride in that. There's humility in that. No, it is a divine exchange that took place. So the intimacy when I have a proper view of him and I can operate in that relationship. And that's the whole purpose of the Holy Spirit and the spirit of adoption. For us, it is impossible. That's why he gave us a helper, a counselor, a comforter. That's why he gave us the power. Because we are weak. He gave us the Holy Spirit, which is the Christ in us, the hope of glory, so that we can be in chair one, learn in the abiding and be connected to the same Father that Jesus was. That's why we need a spirit of adoption. When we say Abba Father, it is the spirit of sonship, daughtership that says Abba Father. The relationship that we can have with the Father, where we simply do what we see our Father do, we say what we hear our Father say. We are resting in the Father's presence. So even there, the Luke 15 story, it was not. We talk about the story about a prodigal son, but it is actually the story of a loving father that had three sons. And one was Jesus in chair one who tell the story about his loving father and two of his brothers. One was rebellious, the other one was religious. But Jesus was always in the house of the Father. And he lived from that place, living from the intimacy. He knew the heart of the Father. And then there was disciple like a son of thunder. [00:34:03] Speaker A: Ah. [00:34:04] Speaker B: And we recognize some of us, maybe some anger issue and things from our childhood, just like John, that after they spent time with Jesus and got the same value that Jesus, John became the son of tender instead of the son of thunder. And he started to put his leaning his head against Jesus chest. So when Jesus says one of you about to betray me, everybody, who is it? Peter's ready. Let's fight. Let's find it. But John just put his head against Jesus bosom. He had learned intimacy. When everybody's asking the question, John leaned for the answer. So what happened with this temperamental fishermen? That is harsh. Let's get fire. The ones that don't vote for Jesus or vote for the right political party at the time, those Samaritans. That was his natural. That was the chair too, John. But the more he spent time with Jesus, he was with him, he became like him. And then he started to have this intimacy with Jesus where he knew that he was even the one that was entrusted to take care of Jesus Mother. And then the question would be to you and I, would you and I be the one that would be entrusted to take care of what is the most valuable to Jesus? In John chapter 19, when Jesus looked at his mother and then looked at the disciple who Jesus loved, Matthew never says, I'm the one that he loves. Mark never says it. Luke never says it. You don't find in the book of Acts. But John five different times says, I'm the one that he loves. It was the intimacy because John it was not just how much Jesus loved John. And I think that many of us that are watching here. This became so big for me when I received a baptism of love and I knew how much the Father loved me. But I had a root issue. I still didn't love me the way that he loves me. And Jesus loved Jesus the way that the Father loved Jesus. It's called covenant. You will never see Jesus as why are you the Father and I'm the Son? You will never see Jesus. No. Jesus was very comfortable there. And John became also that person. And later In John 21, Peter became that person too. After he had denied Jesus three times, fallen asleep three times. Three times. Do you love me? And when the third layer went down and it was not how much Jesus loved Peter, that Peter didn't love Peter the way Jesus loved Peter. And he went back to chair two to becoming A Simon over and over and over again until he was immersed in the love. And Peter could look in the mirror and see Peter the way that Jesus is Peter. That's called the truth. From that moment, he had intimacy. And then you could see in the book of Acts, the signs, wonders and miracles. He didn't have to prove anything. Now he had the approval. And that's the beautiful thing. When you see people that are getting the chair one lifestyle, it is so beautiful that intimacy they have with him. I'm not looking for love in the wrong places because I'm living fully loved. I already have an A before I take the exam. I don't have to prove anything. I already have the approval of the Father and there's no failure with her as a father. That's. So why would we want to live from pressure when we can live from the Father's pleasure? [00:37:03] Speaker A: Yeah. I think for a lot of people, especially people who grew up in some religious upbringing, it's next to impossible to just be. To just live and really, truly believe in your heart that you can just be. There's almost a simplicity because I. I can even feel myself wanting to ask you. Give me the list. Yeah. Of how to stay in chair one. How to be intimate. We want a list. We want a to do list. Yeah. [00:37:39] Speaker B: Yeah. I think that chair two has a very nice to do list. But chair one, you have a nice to be list. [00:37:44] Speaker A: Yeah. And there's a simplicity in that. [00:37:48] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:37:49] Speaker A: And. But there's. It takes a trusting. A trusting that I don't have to have all my ducks in a row and be able to predict in the future. I'm going to be financially okay or socially okay or medically okay or whatever. It. There's mystery in the future. And to truly be able to trust that tomorrow's going to be okay. I don't have to even worry about tomorrow, actually. I'll be provided for. I'll be protected. That takes trust, which goes to the seeing the Father accurately. God's character and nature. We have to really know him as a loving father. And I don't think it's a coincidence that those lies, those. Those temptations in the wilderness on Jesus turn that rock to bread. That's provision. Call the angels to catch you jump off the temple protection and then bow down to me at the mountaintop. I'll give you these kingdoms of the earth going right at his. His. His purpose, his identity of coming here as a son. So provision, protection. That's that orphan mindset. Yeah. So if. If we don't know these things. [00:38:56] Speaker B: Yeah. And the biggest thing that I've learned is that everybody is being fathered. That's not the question. But who is fathering you? Yes, papa, God, who is a good loving father, is not fathering you. The father of all the orphans is coming in and he's influencing you. And so there is another father out there. And he's the father of light. The Bible call him and it is the father of the orphan. So if the enemy can get us into chair two and operate with the orphan frequency, a little bit of what we talked about last time. Only this time we're putting a little bit visualization into what a chair one lifestyle is. Who are you? Identity. Where are you Intimacy. What do you have? Inheritance. And what are you called to do? Destiny. While the chair too is the opposite. Did you do this or didn't you do it? Because that's the value system. And then do you have what is needed to be able to do this or. And eventually it's going to lead into intimacy and then it's going to give you the identity. But it doesn't happen because it doesn't matter how much you do. It's never going to be enough. You need to do more. And that whole trap, the performance treadmill, people getting on and then they're walking around with fear, shame and guilt. And then there's pain issue. And then we wondering why we struggle with all those different sin issues. And it all comes back to there's those then hidden core pain. When there's the dark, what I call the dark soul, the dark hole in your soul that is looking for something to fill that. And so yeah, so for me that everybody is being fathered by someone. But I tell you, papa, God is a good father if you get to know him. And that's who Jesus came to show us, the Father. He is the truth about the Father. He's the way to the Father. He said, if you've seen me, you've seen the Father. And that was another issue. I see that over 90% of the believers has a view of God that doesn't look like Jesus. [00:40:47] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:40:48] Speaker B: And so when you have a wrong view of the Father. So Jesus is the good guy, but the Father is kind of the bad one that cannot handle my message. So I run to Jesus and he stand between me and this guy. And often, like for myself, for many years I had a God that was very bipolar in nature and he seems to be in a mood swing. And it was all up to me to try to get him in the right mood swing. And it was all to do with my behavior, what I did or what I didn't do. And it is so draining. And I know many other believers are out there because I had a wrong view of God. I had a view of God that didn't look like Jesus. And that was one of the first things that I was going after. I actually reread and I saw everything Jesus did when he touched the leper. It's because the Father is touching the lepers. I just reread it and every time I saw Jesus, I saw the Father and it just helped me to coming into an alignment of all the lies I've had of the Father. He cannot handle sin. And then I realized, oh, why is it that sinners love being around Jesus? So here's this woman, prostitute or here's woman at the well. And why would Jesus go into Samaria? Because the Father is going into Samaria. But Jesus, you can't meet with a Samaritan woman. You are a male and she is a female and you are a Jew and she is a no. That's why the Father is doing it and he's doing what the Father is doing. So when I recognized the Father's heart and I went through the gospel again after my baptism of love, I suddenly I fell in love. And suddenly I got me a new father that is a good father, a loving father. Despite all my issues. I've had broken neck, broken back, body cast, tumor. I've had all kinds of issues. So life has not been easy. And as you know, I'm involved in a lot of things in the radical Muslim world. I going into the darkest places and people wondering, why would you do that? It's a love thing. It's the Father that loves these Muslims so much. And that's not something I can do. I need to receive that, to give it especially to love your enemies. So it's even in a couple of weeks I'm going to be in the middle of Middle east in one of the darkest places in the world again. And to be able to take the good news and the gospel and people say, don't you have fear? Yes, but the love that I have is greater than the fear. And perfect love casts out fear. [00:42:57] Speaker A: Yeah, I'm so good you so glad you said that. That of course there's going to be fear. There's going to be these things and we don't get into that condemnation. We recognize and then we bring the truth and the truth sets you free from that fear. So it's not a denial thing, it's not a be perfect thing at all. It's a recognition, pay attention and recognize. We do have a responsibility in this. To take captive our thoughts, to pay attention and. And to not be sucked into the world's way of doing things. Don't be conformed to the world. I mean this thing right here, we started the show, this phone and information overload. The world is constantly at us, trying to suck our attention, our thoughts to get us into this loop over here. So it is our responsibility to recognize the schemes of the enemy. Recognize when we are letting our thoughts go, or recognize when we're in chair too. Recognize these characteristics of the world and then get back abiding, hook yourself back into the vine. And probably for me anyways, it's just turn a lot of stuff off, go get quiet, maybe get in nature, get outside, whatever, a quiet place, get in your closet, be. Just be quiet and just start talking to your father. It's that simple. [00:44:15] Speaker B: There's a couple of other practical things for Chair one. Living one would be the Sabbath. I really encouraged the listeners. I had an experience a few years ago in Malaysia. I arrived and I was going to speak to a thousand of my leaders in Penang. And then I ended up in the hospital with double pneumonia again. And I was like, I was complaining and I had one of those Chair two prayer meetings where God, why would you let this happen? And. And finally I could hear Papa God just whispering in and say son, you have not kept the Sabbath. And I went back, but that's law. And he said no, that's love. And it just hit me and then I realized Sabbath. So when I've taken a 24 hour period of time in a week, it's like a car that maybe has a nice value. You fill it up with gas and oil and everything else. But Sabbath for me is I love God, I love myself and I'm around people. That is not a drainer in my energy. It's one day to recharge, to fill, to be connected to him. To love myself well and love the people around me while doing a great meal. Doing things that recharges also my emotional time, both spirit, soul and body. And just that little thing there I recognize because of the fatigue level. So just even the other things that I have now is some of these daily practices that are put in place like three times a day. I just connect with him. Small little thing that it just reminded me about Chair one because you go through a day and you didn't realize before at night. [00:45:42] Speaker A: Oops. [00:45:43] Speaker B: I've been in chair two all day and I didn't realize that. I've just been so busy. Yeah. So just starting the morning with small things. And sometimes small is the new big in the kingdom of God. So I just realized this small little practice that I do. Good morning Jesus. And just connect to him and then connect. This is who I am identity. This is where I am. And often I do a little exercise where Papa God says who am I to you? And he said, oh you are my papa. And I say who am I to you? And he said oh, you are my son. Just that little thing that takes 10 seconds. I'm in alignment again. As a son of a father, I start that day from that very place. My Father loves me and he's well pleased with me waking up. I don't want to live from pressure this day, but the pleasure knowing that he's never going to leave me or forsake me. And John 8:29 is one of my life verses in this season where Jesus says, the one who sent me, he is always with me and he will never leave me alone because all I do is only what is pleasing to my Father. Jesus lived the life in such a way that everything I do I just want to be a father pleaser. And as a result of that he will always be with me and he will never leave me alone. That was one of Jesus secret to Ch1 living being a father pleaser. And you do that as a son identity. You do that. And I didn't have children because of all the chores and everything else. There's something that happened and even with my grand grandson that when they just come to be with you for being with you and it's not because we're just going to go shopping and always do something, it is a father good pleasure. And I'm telling that even to my grandkids to teach them. Hey, if you just love and pop up a little bit, Papa would do anything for you. And it's the same also if you delight yourself in him, he gives you the desire of your heart, the security of that you delight yourself in him. You prioritize him first, seek first his kingdom and his righteousness. And he is going to promise, I'll take care of everything else. Just make sure in chair one what you are seeking first. Then all these things shall be added in chair two things are being subtracted from us all the time. [00:47:55] Speaker A: Yeah, so good. We've got maybe 10 or so minutes left. Can you speak a little bit to the inheritance in. Because I think our natural tendency from that orphan mindset is, man, I. I need stuff. I need to be sure I can get all the things Jesus bought and paid for. All this stuff I can have and to have access to. I mean, it is true. Everything for life and godliness, every spiritual blessing, heavenly places, but the heart motive behind it is the key, I would say. But what. Can you speak to the inheritance part a little bit? [00:48:32] Speaker B: Yeah, I think that first of all, as you said, all kingdom matters is matters of the heart. And so when I'm going in, I always do my heart test and check my heart. But I do know that, like, there's a lot of things I would like to give my children and my grandchildren, but because of the maturity level or where they act, the very thing that they long for. And I'm very glad that God didn't answer all of my prayer because I could have been married to five different wrong women today. I've been married to Jennifer for 37 years because he knew what I needed. He knew what. So he knows me. So it's learning just to be in a relationship with him. And out of that intimacy, that's why we didn't start with inheritance. It starts with identity, who you are as a son of a father and recognizing who is the father and who's the son in that relationship. Then the intimacy, getting to know him, getting to know his ways, to be with him, to become like him. And then you're realizing all these things Jesus paid for, including if that's healing, if that's provision, if that's everything else, it comes from him, it goes through him, it goes back to him. So I'm not an orphan. Where here is a chair, two is. There's a pizza, there's eight slices, and you got a slice and you got a slice. What about me? But in chair one, Papa, God owns the bakery. You know, there's always enough for everyone. So it's me living with this incredible trust that I can trust him. I know there's certain things that he's not answering yet. I still remember just during the COVID I tore my rotator cuff. And I was a little upset then because it was right as Covid started and it was hard to get surgery and everything else and tore my biceps and. And then I had all these words, you're going to be healed. And I'm like five months into it, I didn't get healed and I was forced to have a surgery. And I ended up with a surgery. And I was complaining to God before the surgery and he says, leif, why are you complaining? I don't do second class healings. So if the word of knowledge, you would be happy if the word of knowledge healed you? I say yes. Or when Randy Clark prayed for oh yes. Or when you declare the word yes. And now when I use a surgeon that I learned his skill set and use his gift. Don't you think the only reason I let you go through this process is because I had something greater for you than if I just answered a prayer when you asked me before. And four months later this incredible thing happened that I was involved in solving a lot of things in regard to cdc, World Health Organization brought me in and I was involved in what's happening in the Muslim world. And literally hundreds of thousands of life was impacted by the wisdom that came and that wouldn't have happened if I had been healed earlier. And I have so many stories of where inheritance is the children's spread it is something but again it's connected to the maturity of the sons and daughters. So the security of the inheritance is connected to our identity but also the intimacy. The intimacy and the relationship that we have of him where we then have access. What is true of him is not true of us and we have access to it. So I don't have to live for it, but from it I don't have to try to achieve what I can receive. So it's coming back again both for me it's a lot to do with a childlikeness and the innocence back as a son and to be able to coming in even there when I'm standing in front of five women that doesn't know how to read. I knew at that moment it is but you Jesus came to save that which was lost. That's inheritance. It's not something I'm working for. It's already available for me. And so I just trust you that if you said you were going to save that, that means they never got to read because of persecution and hardship. The same happened in Cambodia when I was there. So for me inheritance is so important when it flows from intimacy. So from healing to finances to every area of life, why live towards inheritance? That's cheer 2. Inheritance is what's going to happen when you die in chair 1. Inheritance starts to take place when Jesus died. [00:52:41] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:52:42] Speaker B: And so now what he made is available for us as sons and daughters. So it's a lot of these things. We don't need it in heaven. It's already there in heaven. It's some of Those things that he can entrust us here on earth and he would get to us as much as he can get through us so that glory is being released. So I'm still in this position in my own life of constantly able to realizing in the account there's so much more that I still have not tapped into. Not because it is not the Father's goodwill to give his sons, but because that he wants to make sure that I'm stewarding things right. So I'm growing in my capacity with my heart to be entrusted with more so that I can give him more glory. And not being like the prodigal son, I want my inheritance now where the Father in law is going to take us to the pig pen or even if they divide away with a religious person, then we're going to go out and we're going to get the Creator that we are out there working for it instead of receiving it. While Jesus was home with the Father and received the fullness of the inheritance of the Father. And he lived from that, not towards that. That was the difference between the prodigal son and the prodigal brother. [00:53:51] Speaker A: Yes. Wow. So good. I started the top of the interview guys with the. That quote about multitudes of people, including Christians need brand new glasses. And I'm continually trying to check my glasses and renew my mind and be transformed by the renewing of the mind to the truth. And I can get pretty fired up about things in the world, even just in the medical world, the pharmaceutical influence on medical education and protocols and all kinds of things that are not kingdom but even beyond the medical world, whether it's governments in the world or financial systems and, and global bankers and all the things, all the things and, and I'm a solutions guy and I want to, I want to just go in there sometimes and just fix things and, and let's get together and fix things and, and what I'm coming to believe and realize more and more and more is what life's laid out in this past 55 minutes when we individually understand who we are and, and understand who God is accurately and simply abide in that intimacy. Just today I don't need to, to worry about all the things down the road and all the craziness in the world just today. I need to be who God says I am. I need to know who he is and be intimate just like Jesus did. Jesus changed the whole world and he did it with 12 and. But it, he did it by being intimate with the Father. So they're again going back this Simplicity of just individually but then corporately when we're all doing this, the world changes and then the next layer of that and I'll be quiet, give you last word life is that it seems like this is God's plan. I mean God is God, he's the most high, he can do whatever he wants. But if whatever he wanted to do was to have a family and make creatures in his likeness and image that could represent him in the earth as kids but connected to the Father whose love and his way to transform this physical realm was through us all individually carrying his spirit but corporately together. One body, one spirit, one baptism, one head. And that head leads us. But we, we can't be self centered. We've got to be dead to ourself actually him in us. It's such a great mystery plan unknown for ages past, but now known. The church which is the body will put on the manifold wisdom of God in the, to the spiritual forces in the heavenly realms. So all this craziness in the world you want to get mad at and some people want a politician to go fix it or somebody go fix it. No, the kingdom of God's got the fix. He's chosen to do it through a family and we're included in the family and it's going to get done, guaranteed. So I'll, I'll just be encouraged myself that when I want to get discouraged by things in the world, just get back to the simplicity of Christ and the intimacy of relationship and today, not tomorrow, but right now, today in my sphere of influence that Jesus threw me impact those that I encounter today. And if we're all doing that, that's the solution. Leif, thank you so much for joining us. We have a few minutes but any, any last parting words for the audience? [00:57:18] Speaker B: Now I just was thinking about I had a person in Pakistan for years that stirred up trouble, hated me, wanted to kill me and it was just, it was tough. I didn't realize that I often ended up in chair two because of fear because I never knew what was happening. One time 500 guys came with guns and they were going to kill me. So it was a very tough real setting. And then one day I was like having a chair to prayer meeting. God, you need to do something. And I still remember Papa whispered to me, says he is not the problem, you are the problem. He said the hatred he has towards you is greater than your love is towards him. And I just repented and I'm so, I don't know how to love this way. Papa and Then the invitation came to come into chair one to receive it. And I just spent a few months just receiving the Father's love for what used to be my enemy. And he ended up in an official meeting with a group of imams and he had broken his arm. And at that moment I knew very clearly, because you have authority over what you love and where you love. It was. The lenses had changed for me. He was no longer a problem. He was a promise. I walked right up to the cast in front of 30 Muslim scholars and leaders, touched his cast in the name of Jesus, and you can see, and the bone came back. He took off the cast, hugged me. So the same person tried to kill me, that tried to persecute me now is one of my closest friends and my biggest allies. And I've often reflected over that. When we know who we are, identity, where we are, intimacy, what we have, inheritance, then we can step into our destiny and represent the God that looks like Jesus. And this is the beautiful part, because we have authority over what we love and where we love. And I think this is my heart and my desire. Cheer 1 the Roots and the foundation is love. Then you can step into the ocean of love, to experiencing the height, the depths, the width and the length of that love, so that the fullness dwells in there. Ephesians 3:19. So that was Ephesians 3, 17, 18 and 19. And then you can step into now to him who's able to do exceedingly, abundantly, more than you can think and ask, et cetera. So I'm just, let's get back into that ocean of love. When we're moving in and out of that place, there's an invitation, not the condemnation. And I think that as more and more of us starts to do that, just like what you said there. I do believe that light is greater than darkness and love is greater than fear. And perfect love always casts out fear that my challenge and my heart for all of us is for what does it look like for you, to love you the way that he loves you. Because then we love our neighbors or love our enemies as we love ourselves. And that's not just to receive how much he loves us, but us, just like Jesus, to be kind to ourselves, to love ourselves, to be merciful to ourself the way he is, because then we can show mercy to people, kindness to people, despite of it. So that's my challenge in this season for myself and also for the people that are watching, especially during World cup and all these other things. That is exciting. It's just in the middle of all the stuff that's going on, both the good, bad and the ugly. God is going to use all of those things out for good, for those who love him and are called according to his purpose. So welcome home to chair number one. It's a new lifestyle for many of the people to get some new lenses in the way you see God, the way you see yourself, the way you see the world, your circumstances, but also the way you see the future. The future is looking very bright if you see things the way he sees things, because it started well and it ends well. It start with God and everything ends with God. It starts with a family and it ends with a family represented from every nation, tongue, tribe and language. So congratulations. We are on the winning side. But we do need to fix our eyes on Jesus, who is the author. He wrote our story, but he's also the finisher of our faith. So if we're going to finish well, let us also continue to fix our eyes on Jesus. That's just my encouragement and disease because there are so many things distracting us. But I just want to be with him, to become like him and learn how to live and love like Jesus. That's both my identity, it's also my intimacy. And then I have access to inheritance so that I can step into my destiny, my special sauce, my uniqueness, to stay within my lane and be who God called me to be in this world. [01:01:50] Speaker A: Amen. Amen. We'll end it on that. Called to reign, living and loving from a place of rest. Leif Hetland, Life Words. The place people can go to get the book or to find more of your stuff. [01:02:03] Speaker B: You can find either my name, leif hetland, or globalmissionawareness.com or Amazon. You can find it there. You can find it on audible. You can find it in so many different ways. Yeah, so just there's plenty of opportunity.
